Throughout my professional development as a teacher I have striven to keep an open mind and adaptableness. I have had substantial experience attending many professional development events that have helped me learn more about myself as a student and as a teacher. I believe attending these professional development sessions allows me to continue to learn and expand my own learning which is then reflected in my students.

DUECon, the educational conference organised by Deakin University students.
Positive Behaviour Management By Jo Lange (Keynote speaker).
Throughout the session Jo talked about some important aspects of
classroom management that really resonated with me. Especially
the importance Jo placed on restorative practices and the
simplicity of rewarding positive behaviour with your proximity.
I strive to use this technique in my teaching to eliminate time that
can be lost allowing attention seeking students to take away
from other learners and the content.

As a teacher I strive to be respectful and professional when dealing with all members of the schooling community. This includes students, staff and when given the opportunity parents and carers.

Psychology Teachers conference by CDES.
By attending this conference I was able to network with other psychology teachers, in which we were able to share teaching strategies and resources.
This has been positively reflected in my own professional development and learning to include a vast array of activities used in my psychology classes. The most influential aspects of this conference was the support I received by other psychology teachers. It was a very open and welcoming group that was only benefited by the sheer excitement all the psychology teachers had for the subject. In my teaching I strive to always work with others as co-operatively and supportively as I experienced at this conference and to always remember that ‘good teachers share!’

Mentor Meetings at University
Some other experiences I have had with teachers and pre-service teachers are at the mentor meetings for our university course. This is a time where a representative from each mentor group attends a meeting to discuss important information about the course/upcoming events/opportunities.

Using agendas- great to use within subject meetings.

Video conferencing-leads to building stronger relationships as teachers. I intend to use this as a dance teacher to gain a better understanding and communication between schools of what we can offer in terms of pedagogy for the dance curriculum.

Feedback from my supervising teachers has shaped my professional learning. Their feedback has help me to explore the simplicity of asking myself questions. For example, “What exactly am I trying to get the students to do/show me?” Which is then reflected in the construction of my lesson plans and units of work.
